Researchers specify that physical activity gives certain gender-specific benefits to women. Scientists from the University of Alabama at Birmingham suggest that exercise is necessary for women to avoid the risk of breast cancer, osteoporosis and other weight related diseases like heart diseases, stroke and type 2 diabetes.
Women’s body is subjected to constant change due to puberty, child births, pre-menopausal and menopausal changes. The ups and downs in hormone levels bring out many physical and emotional changes. Oestrogen hormone helps in the absorption of calcium and maintenance of bone density, decrease in the levels of this hormone in post-menopausal women causes’ osteoporosis. Constant changes in shape and weight of the body, anxiety, stress and depression become part of most of the women’s life. Weight gains during different phases of life in women, not only increases the risk of breast cancers, but also increase the chances of several other diseases.
Routine exercise and healthy eating are essential for healthy living for both men and women. For women, exercise is the miracle medicine which helps in battling both physical and psychological problems. Experts suggest weight bearing exercises in combination with jogging or cycling or swimming helps in reducing the risk of many diseases. Yoga is another practice, suggested by experts, which helps in posture and balance maintenance. It also strengthens the immune system, relives from depression and anxiety.
Centres for disease control and prevention, US revealed that women are more likely to be inactive than men and are not even getting minimal exercise required per week.
